Two days after the State Cabinet decided to implement the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016 without any changes, citizen groups staged a protest here on Sunday asking the government to implement the Act at the earliest.
Stating that Karnataka was yet to commit to a timeline on implementing the Act, several activists, apartment owners and members of organizations fighting for RERA demanded that the government frame RERA Karnataka rules.
“We are requesting the government to come out with undiluted RERA rules to protect suffering home buyers and to appoint Shambhu Dayal Meena, retired Principal Secretary, as the head of the Regulatory Authority to take forward implementation of RERA in Karnataka,” said M.S. Shankar, convener of Fight for RERA, in a statement.
On Friday, the Cabinet decided to implement RERA without changes after obtaining the opinion of the Urban Development Department.
