'All Projects Will Come Under RERA, Eventually'

NEW DELHI: All real estate projects will come under the ambit of Real Estate Regulation and Development Act (RERA), union minister for housing and urban development Hardeep Puri has said.

“Eventually, all the real estate projects will come under RERA (Real Estate Regulation (and Development) Act, once its mechanism is established in all the states,” said Puri, adding that all ongoing projects in all the states are already under RERA. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to resolve the problems of home buyers of delayed projects.

“There have been some attempts at tweaking RERA so far as ongoing projects are concerned. But I think that’s coming to naught because as RERA mechanisms are being established in states, all projects will get covered by the RERA. So, I think, it’s going in that direction,’’ the minister said on the sidelines of the CII-CBRE real state conference.

Haryana RERA’s Gurgaon bench under K K Khandelwal on August 21 had ruled that all the real estate projects will come under RERA. The minister, however, declined to comment on the judgment.

Puri said Uttar Pradesh, which is facing a problem of delaye projects, had appointed a high-powered panel under the Union housing secretary to examine and resolve issues plaguing the sector. The committee has already submitted the report to the state government. Puri, however, declined to divulge the details.

The Haryana government has also asked the union government to intervene and help resolve the problem of delayed projects.
