RERA Slaps 32 Notices

PATNA: The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) on Wednesday issued 32 fresh show-cause notices to 10 real estate firms for advertising their projects without registering with the authority under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. The ongoing project, which were served notices, are located in Patna, Ara, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Rohtas.

As per the RERA Act, which came into effect in May last year, builders should get permanent approval before advertising projects, entering into an agreement with customers and accepting advance money from them.

Meanwhile, the RERA on July 31 received 40 applications for registration of ongoing real estate projects. The authority has decided to extend the deadline till August 31 without in without increasing the late fee. Earlier, the deadline was July 31 for registering projects with a fine of Rs 4 lakh or 400% whichever is higher.

“At least 598 builders and promoters have registered their projects with the RERA by July 31. Most of these are located in Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Ara, Vaishali, Purnia, Katihar and Begusarai. Of the 598 projects, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Ara, Vaishali, Purnia, Katihar and Begusarai. Of the 598 projects, 122 have got RERA number,” said Sinha.

Within three months, RERA-Bihar sent over 217 show-cause notices to various real estate developers. The authority has taken several steps to safeguard customers from unscrupulous real estate builders.

The RERA Act was passed in March, 2016 to protect the interests of consumers and became operational from May, 2017 in the country, except Jammu and Kashmir.
